The Irshad Foundation is a family-funded initiative based between London, Singapore and Dhaka. It was founded in 2017 by the family’s daughter, Tahneet Irshad, an international human rights lawyer who currently runs the foundation.
Tahneet holds a B.Sc., LL.B. and LL.M., qualifying as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2011 with corporate law firm Holman Fenwick Willan LLP’s head office in London. Most recently she has had experience with the Human Rights Team and the Corporate Social Responsibility team at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Irshad Foundation aims to promote public education on child participation whilst investing in social justice projects relating to children. Tahneet is at present invested in the following projects on behalf of the foundation:
- developing separate teaching modules on international law on the rights of the child for:
(a) public engagement and awareness;
(b) university/college accreditation; - creation of a child-friendly pack for vulnerable witnesses attending court in Singapore;
- setting up of a Singapore National Committee for UNICEF.
In addition to the above, Tahneet devotes her time to personal projects encompassing legal drafting and academic work with the Human Rights Collegium in London.
